meet my fitness-buddies

now, i don't know if any of you have made this experience before but apparently everyone out there training is like part of a biiig family. well, i kinda warmed up and stretched at home because i think it's just too embarrasing to do that out there in the streets (like i actually know what i'm doing - ha). so i grab my discman and my keys, which btw were really bugging most of the time -- i wonder where other people have their keys when they're out there getting/staying healthy and fit. a-n-y-w-a-y, so i get going towards the river, which is only five minutes away from my place. i have to cross the street at a fairly big interception though and when i get there, the lights turn red of course. so there i am, all warmed up and stuff and i just don't know what to do with myself. stretch like i was some walking-fitness-pro in front of thirty cars? don't think so. but i did wanna move a little bit and not just stand there. after all i was being a sporty young woman and people didn't need to see right away that this was one of my "first" times out there. so i kinda moved backwards out of the sight of 10 cars and kinda moved around which probably ended up looking like i needed to go pee really bad... then i finally get to cross the street and there's this guy circling around on his (very sporty-looking) blue bike wearing a matching-the-bike-blue bike-rider's outfit waiting for his light to turn green. and when i pass him he says "have fun!" like we've been buddies forever. i had never seen that guy before. and -- i swear i'm not exaggerating or making that up -- every single jogger/walker and even a few of the people just going for a walk would either mumble a "hello", smile at me or even wink the eye. now, i wonder if that's normal. does the fact that we all decided to not be couchpotatoes that afternoon and get out and do something to stay (in my case get) in shape make us part of a big family? or did i look that weird in my outfit? i would think black yoga-pants, sweater, ponytail and hat would be appropriate for an occasion like that. and i did check back home if i had a bugger hanging out my nose or paint in my face or something -- negative.. so i decided this is probably the same phenomenon like with driving the old VW bettle or a vespa (scooter) flashing the headlight at each other or waiving to say hi. i feel like part of a big healthy family now *sigh* and i will go meet them tonight after work again. you should stay in touch with your family.. |
